The History of David's Instrument Repair and Pro Shop

David Schottle has been repairing instruments for nearly his entire life. He's been playing the saxophone for a little longer.
One of David's gifts is being a problem-solver. He likes to make things work again, and he enjoys a challenge. On the wall of his shop, you'll see samples of horns that he has fixed. Actually, you'll see some of the pieces from damaged horns that he has had to replace, or the horns that just couldn't be repaired. Running over a horn with a car, or stepping on one while carrying a tuba, is not a great prescription for a horn's longevity.
Originally from Chicago, David came to Dallas and began working at a major national music retailer that went out of business in 2003. When the retailer closed, David started repairing instruments at his current location just off the square in Old Town Carrollton, Texas. He started his business with the hope that some of his contacts from the old shop would visit the new shop. Almost immediately, he began to acquire musicians as clients. Over time, he has also added school districts, band boosters, individual parents and saavy students to his growing list of customers.
When asked why he started carrying new horns, he says that "there is really no place to play pro-level horns in Dallas anymore, or at least nowhere to compare three or four brands before you buy. In fact, that is a benefit of the small retailer that is almost extinct - you just cannot find a place to try things out anymore."
David is clear on one thing. "We'd always like to offer that service, and I hope that my customers will recognize the incredible opportunity we provide for them and their children to try before they buy."
David is an Authorized Sales and Service location for leading horns, and he now stocks horns from Bach, Selmer, Conn, Shires, Blessing, Kanstul, Stomvi, Buffet, Steve Goodson, Jupiter and Yanigasawa and can order Keilwerth, Benge, King, Besson, LeBlanc, Olds, Courtois, Blackburn and Schilke.
Mouthpieces in stock include Morgan, Bach, Bob Reeves, Marcinkiewicz, GR Technologies and Mark Curry as well as a selection of reeds, oils, greases, mutes and horn care products. We also stock and special-order music, and we are pleased to sell some of our customers' (and friends') CDs and DVDs in the shop on consignment.
